That Beautiful Imbalance are currently working on some new songs, and the first of them has just gone up on Reverbnation

It’s a bit more lighthearted than usual and is called ‘At Her Majesty’s Pleasure’. It owes a lot to the Finals of the BBC Lincolnshire Folk Song Competition last year with a mention of Spilsby (where the finals took place) in it! It’s all about a rotten busker who keeps getting run out of town and is always in trouble with the law. Don’t know that it will ever make the major charts, but it can’t fail to catch on with Folk fans. It’s style is somewhere between The Pogues and the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band !!!!!

Entering the 2007 BBC Radio Lincolnshire Folk Song Competition with only two weeks or so to spare to the September closing date the band were thrilled to reach the Finals with the entry, Long Walk Home. The Final were held at Spilsby Theatre in Lincolnshire on Thursday 11 October. Although quite tiring it was a great night with some dedicated Lincolnshire folk singers as fellow finalists giving the band of ‘outsiders’ a warm reception. The band played to a discerning folk audience and panel of judges and, although the main entry didn’t win, the band were amazed at the reception the warm-up song Canary Pit Widows received, especially from the judges. Encouraged by their comments to send the song to the radio, it was duly sent to Mick Peat and Lester Simpson, the presenters of ‘Folkwaves’, BBC Radio Derby. Canary Pit Widows received instant airplay being played on their show on <st1:date year="2007" day="3" month="12"><st1:date year="2007" day="3" month="12"><st1:date year="2007" day="3" month="12"><st1:date year="2007" day="3" month="12">Monday, 03 December 2007</st1:date></st1:date></st1:date>. Both presenters thought it was great and Mick Peat called it ‘fabulous’ and ‘refreshing’, describing it as ‘progressive folk’ whilst Lester Simpson was keen to hear more songs. High praise indeed from two presenters who are passionate about folk music and acclaimed in their own right! </st1:date><st1:date year="2007" day="3" month="12"></st1:date>To find out more about the BBC Lincolnshire Folk Song competition or about Folkwaves please click on following links:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/derby/local_radio/folkwaves_programme_feature.shtml http://www.bbc.co.uk/lincolnshire/content/articles/2006/06/02/folk_song_competition_feature.shtml
